The silent morning left its trace of dewdrops on the winter leaves and flowers. It was a pleasant morning for Joshua and his family. Joshua is a civil engineer, who has honed his skill since his college days. His dreams were always grandiose with wide wings through the air. His dream was to get a beautiful home for his mom. This became his dream from his childhood when he was played games at home. Every day after school, he would run into his room and start building this dream home. In reality, he and his brother Michael, who is a software engineer, faced lots of trouble in building this dream home. Nevertheless, today they were in a home they could afford, and though it was different from the one in their dream, it was of course well furnished, stylish, and a possessed a modern touch. Even though this morning seemed to be very gloomy, it was bright in their home; and it would always be full of decorations and celebrations. They were waiting for their mom who is on her way to the new home that her sons were going to give her as a gift. (more…)

Each day merged into the next, it had been weeks since he washed, and he was sure the Russian soldiers across the line could smell him in his hiding places. Actually, their odor was as bad, or worse, then his. The short days and long nights of winter were waning and the relative protection of darkness grew shorter. Now in April, day and night were equal – 12 hours of darkness and spotty rest, followed by 12 hours of continuous bombardment and life-threatening danger. Besides the artillery, machine guns, and tanks just raising your head a few centimeters to high would invite the snipers’ wrath. (more…)
Dax was used to the obsessive organization. When he first came to stay with Mr. Cordova who lived in an old farm house with plenty of room for boarders he noticed that all of his belongings were meticulously placed in some sort of container. There was a special place, nook, or box for all of his things and Mr. Cordova had boxes and containers stacked everywhere. Mr. Cordova had boxes of all sizes and colors relegated to storing everything from food to tools. His food was stored neatly in small boxes of varying colors, some in a large white box, some stacked neatly in rows.
He kept his tools outside along with other things for tending the garden and each had its own small container which was stacked inside a large box in the yard. There were other containers outside which would eventually cause Dax serious problems. (more…)

Ever since I can remember my little red-headed brother has been hyper. Up until the age of 10 he had nine emergency room happenings. I can still see the skin peeling off of his little baby shin with his little white toddler shoes on. He had put his leg into the bathroom sink and turned on the scalding hot water. This was our first trip to the Emergency Room.
My parents used to have to tie him up on a long rope in the backyard to a tree. We would be outside with him, my mom sitting on the back porch cement step watching him and playing with him. I can remember sitting in the sandbox with him and playing. All of a sudden he’d get up to run, and just like a dog, fall down when he ran out of rope and scream his head off! You see, even though my mom was right there watching him, she was not fast enough to catch him on his wild whims to get up and run away! One of the neighborhood ladies could not stand my mother. She thought this was child abuse. Even though I was only 10-years-old or 11-years-old, I told my mom to ignore her as it was better that my little brother was safe instead of getting run over by a car on the road. (more…)

It was raining very heavily. Dark monstrous clouds had gathered and filled the sky. Now and again lightning flashed across the sky illuminating the road ahead. Soon he was on the pathway leading to his bungalow. It was exactly then that the electricity went out plunging the entire area into darkness. As he got out of the car he became conscious of the eerie silence, but for the sound of the rain. He has been coming here for years but never had it been like this. The silence was broken then and again only by the howling of the unruly wind, which fiercely raged. He found it increasingly difficult to open and steady the umbrella. As he started to walk he realized that he was knee deep in muddy water. Hauling himself, he slowly but steadily made his way to his house. He was shivering with cold as he felt that he was now fully wet and the wind made him feel chillier. (more…)

Teegan squinted as he shielded his eyes from the mid day suns. Circon was a mostly uninhabited planet and the one spaceport that served its only large city was always congested and filled with the exhaust of hundreds of ships as they came and went with their live cargo. Two suns burned brightly in the sky making Teegan’s job even hotter.
“Get that Jargel onboard” called one of the senior officers from the platform below the ship.” Teegan pulled the rope looped around the neck of a large lumbering creature that wobbled slightly as it loped up the gangplank.
“We don’t have all day” Kane snapped next as he thread his way between squawking crates, “I want those crates of bird looking things loaded next.”

Dr. Lang is going to try his procedure for the sixth time. In 2018 he discovered he could literally get into another person’s skin and feel how that person feels. Amazing? Yes. With many experiments he discovered he was able to transplant another person’s cells into his body and for one day the other person’s feelings and thoughts took over. The reason it only works for one day is the cells usually reject Dr. Lang’s body and start to die.
Today is the first time Dr. Lang is going to test out how a serial killer thinks and feels. Dr. Lang is ecstatic yet nervous. Dr. Lang is in his lab and ready to scrape the cells from convicted killer Jeffery Dahmer.
